Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to leave their chickens behind when they return to Britain has emerged as a clue that their move across the Atlantic might not be a permanent one.
The decision has been seen as a telling sign that Meghan and Harry intend to continue spending time in California despite their ‘Megxit’ u-turn, according to The Sun.
The Duke and Duchess’ chickens are not the only part of their American life they will be leaving behind as the pair plan on keeping their Montecito mansion, where the flock will be cared for by household staff.

The arrangements suggest the Duke and Duchess are preparing to split their time between the UK, California and their holiday home in Portugal, rather than making a complete break with their life in the US.
The chickens have long been part of their California life after Mary and Meghan rescued ten hens from a commercial factory farm before neighbour Ellen DeGeneres gave them another.
The flock even featured in the Sussex’s explosive Oprah Winfrey interview and in one of Meghan’s Netflix shows.
The pair kept the birds in a coop named Archie’s Chick Inn, after their son, Prince Archie, 7, who will also be relocating to the UK with their daughter Princess Lilibet, 5.
Meghan and Prince Harry are understood to have enrolled Archie and Lilibet on a school where they will start their British education in September.
The location of their new British residence and Archie and Lilibet’s school are being kept private.
The family won’t be setting up their renewed life in the UK at the home in Windsor Castle they were “asked to vacate” in 2022 and will instead be living in a “non-royal residence” outside of London.
There has already been speculation about what has prompted the couple’s change of heart, and Meghan’s professional plans could be part of the answer.
Just one day after news of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s u-turn spread, sources told news.com.au that Meghan had been offered a role in an upcoming project being developed in the UK.
The nature of the project remains a closely guarded secret, with no details yet released about the production, Meghan’s potential role or when filming could take place.
But the timing of the offer has fuelled speculation that Meghan’s professional plans could be playing a part in the couple’s return to Britain after the pair moved to California in 2020 following their dramatic exit from royal duties.
The offer has not been publicly confirmed by Meghan or Prince Harry, or their representatives.
A return to royal duties will also not be on the cards for the couple, with King Charles indicating the couple will maintain their private lives to continue pursuing charity work and independent careers.
It also comes after a private meeting between Prince Harry and King Charles, suggesting there may be renewed efforts to maintain family connections.
For Prince Harry, returning to home soil could provide an opportunity to rebuild some of the family relationships that have suffered since his departure to the US.
