Nowhere in her caption did Meghan mention her husband by name.
“Seven years of marriage. A lifetime of stories,” the post read.
“Thanks to all of you (whether by our side or from afar) who have loved and supported us throughout our love story – we appreciate you. Happy anniversary!”
It didn’t take long for royal watchers to notice the glaring omission.
Critics who took to social media to question why the Duchess appeared to address the post to the public, rather than her husband.
“Meghan Markle just wished herself a Happy Anniversary! Who does that?” one user wrote.
Another added: “She wished HERSELF a happy anniversary in her post, she is so weird and out of touch, it’s really funny at this point
The sentiment was echoed by others who described the post as “strange,” “bizarre,” and “self-congratulatory.”
Many questioned why Prince Harry wasn’t acknowledged directly, despite appearing in several of the intimate images.
The corkboard itself, however, was undeniably personal, featuring candid snaps of the couple painting in the garden, family holidays, and a tender moment between Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. One image showed Meghan’s pregnancy bump; another, Archie in the womb.
There was even a selfie from 2016, taken in London at the start of the couple’s relationship.
But even amid the nostalgia, critics couldn’t help but feel the post lacked a key ingredient: Prince Harry
The Daily Mail reported that the memory board also featured Meghan’s own coat of arms — designed with the College of Arms and approved by the late Queen Elizabeth II after the couple’s 2018 wedding.
The crest, with Californian poppies, sunshine rays, and quills representing communication, was interpreted by some as another subtle reminder of Meghan’s personal brand woven into the occasion.
The post may have been meant as a romantic nod to seven years of marriage, but the tone, according to online commentators, felt more like a solo celebration.
Whether it was a social media misstep or a calculated message, one thing is clear: Meghan’s anniversary message didn’t just spark well-wishes — it sparked debate.
