Royal family members have wished him well; according to the Sunrise Editor "not so personally"

Meghan and Harry have weighed in on the US election but stopped short of saying who they would prefer to be the next president.

The royal couple found themselves the target of Donald Trump’s ire in 2020 after they released a video urging voters to “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity”, which was perceived to be an inferred endorsement of Joe Biden.

This time around they have made it known they plan to stay “publicly neutral” but couldn’t resist throwing their support behind a campaign of a different kind.

In honour of National Voter Registration Day, the royal couple — via their Archewell Foundation staff — joined a letter-writing campaign urging Americans to sign up to vote.

“Our team wrote personalised letters encouraging unregistered voters to take a crucial step: registering to vote,” a statement on the Archewell Foundation website read.

“Voting is not just a right; it’s a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities. At The Archewell Foundation, we recognise that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world.

“By participating in initiatives like this, we aim to amplify the message that every voice matters.”

It went on: ”Together, let’s make sure every eligible voter is informed and empowered to participate in shaping America’s future.”

The couple’s previous foray into US election politics sparked a debate about how suitable it was for them to make any comment on political matters, with Republicans calling for them to be stripped of their titles.

Buckingham Palace even responded to the uproar, saying it would not comment on Prince Harry’s remarks: “The Duke is not a working member of the Royal Family and any comments he makes are made in a personal capacity.”

And Mr Trump made clear his feelings about Meghan in his response to the video, saying: “I’m not a fan of hers … I wish a lot of luck to Harry. He’s gonna need it.”
