A woman has been left horrified after finding half of a cat in her front yard.

Shelly Toth went into shock when she made the grim discovery.

“I went into shock at first. I walked in my house and I just started screaming and crying and pacing, and I didn’t know what to do,” she told KJRH.

The south Tulsa woman had been working at her desk, facing her front lawn when she observed a huge flock of birds circling something.

Then she realised it was a dead animal, and thought is must be a raccoon or possum.

“I came out to clean it up and unfortunately was shocked to look down and find half of a cat in my yard,” Ms Toth said.

“I’m still shaking this morning. I just was so far out there with the stress yesterday when I found it, that my body’s just not back together yet.”

Ms Toth is a self proclaimed cat lover, having been taking care of stray and feral cats in the local area for years.

She suspects the cat was slaughtered in a targeted and intentional act of cruelty.

“It was obvious that it was not an animal attack,” she said.

“There was no fur, there was no second half of the body. It was extremely clean cut as if a machete had gone through it.”

Ms Toth called the police, and was referred to the Tulsa Animal Welfare centre, who sent an officer to clear the scene.

She said the officer told her that an investigation would be opened, and that he looked very disturbed.

The local community is full of cat-owners, and Ms Toth wants them to take precautions to ensure the safety of their pets.

“I just want people to be aware of what’s going on in their community and hold their fur babies close tonight,” she said.

Ms Toth wishes to continue taking care of local animals and hopes that the incident will not prevent them from coming to her property.

“I haven’t seen one cat since this happened,” she said.
