A man is dead after he was reportedly flung off a rollercoaster ride, in a terrifying incident which injured several other people.

Emergency services were called to Six Flags Over Georgia around 4pm on Monday local time, following reports of an incident relating to one of the theme park’s major attractions.

It is believed a man fell off and plummeted to his death while riding the rollercoaster on Monday.

The Cobb County Police Department confirmed that one person was dead and several were injured.

The man has not been identified and the circumstances of his death are yet to be understood.

The Goliath rollercoaster, which launched in 2006, advertises itself as a “hypercoaster” on Six Flags Magic Mountain’s website.

Reaching speeds of 136 kmph, the ride is more than 1.3 kilometres in length and features a 77 metre drop.

A spokesperson for Six Flags said the company was “deeply saddened” by the incident.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones,” they told CBS News.

“We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected.

“The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation.”

The BBC reported that riders of the Goliath were removed from the ride by workers after the incident left them stuck on an incline.

Safety inspectors remain at the scene.

Local outlet 11 Alive spoke with several witnesses who said a man was ejected from the ride and hit the car several times before falling onto the roof of an attraction below.

Witness Brittany Landry described the terrifying scenes to Fox 5.

“I’m watching the rise cause that’s the best part of the track, you know, and we’d just look and I just see somebody fly out and just fly into the woods.”

She said it happened about 45 metres from her so she could not tell if it was an adult or child who fell.

“It was just an object, you know, you could see it was an human-formed object just flying,” she said.

Ms Landry, who had ridden the rollercoaster earlier in the day, told the outlet she broke down in tears.

“You go to ride roller coaster to get the adrenaline rush, but you always expect to get back,” she said.

“You don’t expect to not come home.

“I’m sorry for whoever that was, I’m so sorry that happened to you today.

“I’m sorry, it could have been any of us.”

The incident comes as Six Flags Magic Mountain in California faces multiple lawsuits over alleged brain injuries caused by the X2 rollercoaster, which has been closed since July following the hospitalisation of two riders.

The company has 20 amusement parks, 14 water parks and nine resorts across Canada, Mexico, and the US.
