As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex weather a new round of toxic workplace allegations, current and former staffers have voiced their support for the couple.

The reports began when a source made several claims about Meghan’s character in the wake of the reported departure in August of their chief of staff Josh Kettler after just three months in the job, citing the Duchess of Sussex as the reason for high staff turnover in their team.

“Everyone’s terrified of Meghan,” the first source told The Hollywood Reporter on September 12 in an article headlined “Why Hollywood Keeps Quitting on Meghan and Harry”.

The report even claimed there was a “Sussex Survivors Club” of former staff members.

It labelled husband Prince Harry as “very, very charming” but said he was an “enabler”.

However former staff member Mandana Dayani, who was the president of the Sussexes’ company Archewell for 18 months before a 2022 exit, weighed in to support the couple.

“Part of the profound injustice of having to speak publicly on this in light of these endless and damaging narratives is that so much of the kindness, mentorship, and support that Prince Harry and Meghan share with others happens quietly behind closed doors,” she said in a statement to social media.

Dayani recalled travelling with Meghan to Uvalde, Texas following a 2022 primary school shooting in which 19 children and two teachers were killed.

“For hours, (Meghan) sat in a room with grieving families, going one by one to each person — hugging them and crying with them,” Dayani recalled.

Harry’s former chief of staff Kettler also spoke out in defence of the Sussexes.

“They are dedicated and hardworking ... it was impressive to witness,” he wrote on Instagram, adding that he was “warmly welcomed” when he first began the role.

Ben Browning, who was the Sussexes’ former head of content and worked on their Netflix series Harry & Meghan, left in 2023 when his contract expired, said on social media the working environment was “positive and supportive ... we all continue to be friends.

“The narratives we’ve seen suggesting the contrary are untrue.”

The new claims have surfaced years after Buckingham Palace completed an internal investigation over claims Meghan “drove two personal assistants out of the royal household and undermined the confidence of a third staff member,” The Times reported in 2018.

In a statement at the time, a spokesperson for the Sussexes said Meghan denied all claims of bullying but did not reject the assertion that a complaint had been made.

“The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma,” the statement said.

“She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”
