Two people injured after shooting breaks out in busy Bali bar, manhunt for gunman ends in airport arrest
The shooting happened in a busy bar in Bali’s nightlife district on Friday.
A suspected gunman has been arrested after fleeing Bali following a shooting in a busy bar that left two people injured.
Authorities say the shooting took place about 2.50am on Friday at The Shady Pig bar, a popular late-night venue on Jalan Pantai Berawa in Canggu.
It is understood that the incident began with an altercation between the suspect, an Indonesian man whose name has not been disclosed, and a 25-year-old Chinese national.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.A third man, a 32-year-old bar security guard, is believed to have stepped in to try to separate the men when the suspect drew a firearm and fired a single shot.
The bullet travelled through the security guard’s leg before getting lodged in the Chinese national’s thigh, with both men being taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A manhunt then ensued when the Indonesian man fled the scene, before going on to board a flight to Jakarta from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali several hours after the shooting.
A joint operation involving several police forces resulted in the suspect being apprehended shortly after landing in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang on Saturday night.
“We have successfully apprehended the suspected shooter. We will provide further details later,” Degi Rajuandi, head of the Badung Police criminal investigation division, said.
Following the arrest, the Indonesian man was flown back to Bali for questioning.
