A father attempting to rescue his daughter from an accused child rapist described as a ‘monster’, has been arrested and could face murder charges after he allegedly shot and killed the man.

Aaron Spencer allegedly found his 14-year-old daughter inside 67-year-old Michael Fosler’s car in Arkansaw on Tuesday, October 8 after she had gone missing from the family home.

Mr Spencer allegedly moved her to safety, before shooting Mr Fosler following an altercation. The 67-year-old man died from his injuries.

According to the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office, officers were en route to Mr Spencer’s home after his daughter had been reported missing when they were told that Mr Spencer had found his daughter nearby.

The sheriff’s office said a “confrontation” between the men ensued after a car chase, which ended with Mr Fosler being shot and killed before Mr Spencer was then taken into custody.

“By God’s never failing grace, my husband passed this man driving on our road with our minor child in the vehicle,” Mr Spencer’s wife Heather wrote on social media.

“The chase ended in an accident. Aaron was able to retrieve our child alive,” Ms Spencer added.

“My husband is a combat veteran, who has always protected his country and family. I have no doubt our child would not have come home if my husband hadn’t found her.”

According to USA Today, the family had a no-contact order in place for Fosler, accusing him of stalking and raping their daughter and Fosler had been arrested in July.

“We had no idea this man was in contact with our child again,” said Ms Spencer.

“At the end of the day, our daughter is a victim and we have a long road of recovery for everyone,” the Facebook post read.

Police arrested Mr Spencer on a preliminary charge of first-degree murder, a Class Y felony, which typically comes with a sentence of 10 to 40 years or life in prison, but he was later released on bail.

Social media is awash with support for the family with most commenting about their reaction if the situation arose with one of their family members

“No charges should be filed! I’m so sorry you are going through it but given the circumstances, any father would do the same,” one wrote.

“He saved his daughter!!! What a hero. He should not be in jail!” another wrote.

In a statement, Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley described the case as a “tragic situation” and said that official charges had not been filed.
