Since their arrest, chilling new details have come to light. Among the most shocking claims are that the girl was locked in a bathroom and confined to a dog crate inside a South Jersey home, conditions prosecutors have described as a “house of horrors”.
According to a statement from the Prosecutor’s Office, obtained by People, the girl “was removed from school in the sixth grade at Spencer’s discretion and confined to her home.”
“She (the victim) stated that shortly after this, she was forced to live in a dog crate for approximately one year and was let out periodically.”
Later, the teen was allegedly moved to a locked bathroom, where she was kept chained.
“She stated that she would be let out of the bathroom when family visited the residence,” the prosecutor’s statement continued.
In another instance, the girl was reportedly isolated in a bare room with no furniture, forced to use a bucket as a toilet. Authorities allege the room was rigged with an alarm system designed to alert Spencer and Mosley if she attempted to escape.
The teenager also alleged she was beaten with a belt and sexually assaulted by Mosley, according to the statement.
She was able to flee the home on May 8 with help from a neighbour. Once safe, she disclosed the harrowing details of her ordeal to the police, prompting the investigation.
When officers arrived at the property, they were met with what they described as a “despicable” scene. The teenager had been living in squalid conditions, surrounded by “numerous dogs, chinchillas, and other animals”.
Also residing in the home was a 13-year-old girl who allegedly had been removed from school by Spencer and was being home-schooled.
Attorneys representing Spencer and Mosley have entered not guilty pleas on their behalf, according to the outlet.
If found guilty, Mosley could face life in prison, while Spencer could face a maximum sentence of 30 years.
