A woman has been charged after allegedly posing as a doctor and carrying out cosmetic surgery that authorities say left a young woman with permanent scarring.

Dingrui Wang, 34, has been accused of performing a double eyelid blepharoplasty on a 22-year-old woman at a property in Allston in January 2020, according to prosecutors.

The procedure was allegedly carried out despite Wang not holding a valid Massachusetts medical licence. Authorities say she falsely presented herself as a licensed physician and proceeded to inject a local anaesthetic and non-FDA-approved dermal fillers into the woman’s eyelids.

According to a statement issued by Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin R Hayden’s office, the victim attempted to leave after the first eyelid was operated on but was pushed back onto the table and prevented from leaving until the procedure was completed. Prosecutors alleged the woman experienced “extreme pain” and was left with permanent scarring.

The allegation forms part of a broader case against Wang, who is also accused of falsely claiming she held licences as an aesthetician, massage therapist and hair salon operator on a loan application to the American Lending Centre.

Prosecutors say she received a $37,379 ($A53,270) loan at a time when those licences were suspended, People reported.

Wang now faces a long list of charges, including four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious injury, one count of kidnapping and two counts of larceny over over $1,200 by false pretence.

She has also been charged with the unauthorised practice of medicine, improper use of the title physician and receiving payment for a surgical procedure based on that alleged misrepresentation.

Wang was indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury on January 29 and is due to be arraigned on February 5.

“Physicians are licensed for very good reasons, primary among them the assurance that patients are going to be treated by someone trained and certified to deliver safe, effective medical procedures. When misrepresentations are made the results can be devastating,” Mr Hayden said.
