Guano Point: Man plunges off Grand Canyon to death, rescue team descend to recover body

A man has died after he slipped and fell off the edge of the Grand Canyon.
The unidentified 65-year-old was visiting the Guano Point area on November 6 when he reportedly lost his footing and fell more than 40 metres down the canyon onto a scree pile.
Mohave County’s search and rescue office said they received a call at about 2pm to assist the local Hualapai Nation in recovering the man’s body.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.“Search and Rescue responded and located him about 130 feet (40 metres) down on a scree pile,” the office said in a statement.
“Technical rope technicians set up a lowering and raising system using ropes to recover him and convey the body to the Mohave County Medical Examiners Office.
“Also helping on this recovery were Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire, Grand Canyon West Security - thank you for your assistance.
“Our condolences are with his family. Please respect their privacy during this time.”
Tributes are flowing for the unidentified man on social media.
“I can’t even imagine the pain of his family having to see this. This is so sad for them and that recovery was dangerous for the brave men who came to get the victim. This is heartbreaking,” one Facebook user wrote.
“Wishing the family comfort and love as they navigate this unimaginable loss,” another commented.
