Jessica Mauthe: Pennsylvania woman evicted from home, police make shocking discovery in closet

A landlord’s inspection of a property after evicting his tenant has led to a gruesome discovery as he traced a strong odour to a garbage bag hidden in a closet.

Brent Flanigan evicted tenant Jessica Mauthe, 39, from her rental property in Cadogan, Pennsylvania, in August after she failed to pay rent.

It wasn’t until September 13, when Mr Flanigan returned to clean the home, that he noticed a foul smell coming from a closet.

Inside, wrapped in a garbage bag, he found a deceased baby.

Mr Flanigan alerted authorities immediately, and after a search of the residence, police found the remains of two more babies, which were hidden in a bedroom and the attic.

Mauthe was charged on the same day with criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse, according to CBS News.

Now, Mauthe is facing a new set of charges after police made the harrowing discovery of the remains of a fourth baby on September 18.

According to the outlet, which obtained the criminal complaint document, Mauthe admitted to hiding the bodies of three of the four babies after giving birth to them in her bathroom.

She told police that she gave birth in 2019, when she could hear the baby “whimpering” before passing out. When she woke up, the baby was dead, so she wrapped it up and hid its body, according to the police report.

She also confessed to police that she gave birth to two other babies, whose remains she placed in garbage bags and tote bags after she heard the babies making noises.

Shockingly, Mauthe never sought medical attention for any of the infants and never told anyone about giving birth.

The Pennsylvania woman is now facing one count of criminal homicide, one count of involuntary manslaughter, four counts of concealing the death of a child, and four counts of abuse of a corpse, the publication reports.

She has been denied bail. The investigation remains ongoing.
