A 23-year-old woman who was months away from her college graduation has died after three dogs she was pet sitting brutally attacked her.

Madison Riley Hull had been looking after the three pit bulls at a home on Northwood Drive in Tyler, Texas.

At around 4.15pm on November 21 the dogs began brutally mauling her. Police were called to the home and found Ms Hull lying on the ground in the backyard.

As one of the officers moved toward Ms Hull to help, a pit bull charged toward him. The officer shot and killed that dog, and that gunfire scared the two remaining dogs, allowing the officer to pull Ms Hull from the backyard to safety.

Tragically, she died shortly afterwards, Tyler Morning Telegraph reported. Her cause of death was “attacking”, “biting” and “mauling” according to court documents.

The police officer who shot the dog was treated at a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Ms Hull’s family have been left devastated and shared her story when they set up a GoFundMe page to cover her funeral and memorial costs.

Jennifer Hubbell, Ms Hull’s mother, said she was “shattered in a way I didn’t know a human being could break”.

“My beautiful, full of love, full of life, free-spirited daughter was killed in a sudden and vicious dog attack,” she wrote.

Her daughter was just six months away from completing her degree in early childhood education at the University of Texas.

“She had already found her true purpose in teaching young children. Her K-3rd grade students adored her. She had a gift for making every child feel safe, special, and loved. Madison’s heart was made for that work,” Ms Hubbell wrote.

The remaining two dogs will be euthanised in accordance with a court order made by Smith County Judge Andy Dunklin on Tuesday.

The dog’s owners waived their right to a hearing on the matter.

No criminal charges have been laid.
