A homicide investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead inside a cardboard box in the middle of a desert.

Police were called to a remote desert area in Mohave County, Arizona after receiving a man reported a “suspicious package” on September 5.

The caller said he believed there was a dead person inside a large cardboard box that was dumped on his property near Windmill Ranch Rd, east of Kingman.

A statement released by Mohave County Sheriff’s Office revealed that another person had observed a vehicle near the “wash” area, a typically dry riverbed that can rapidly flood with water, the night before the body was discovered.

“Another subject on scene indicated that he had observed a vehicle near the wash with the trunk open the night prior, but it was dark outside, and he could not identify the vehicle,” the statement said.

Detectives took fingerprints from the victim at the scene, and later identified her as 57-year-old Carolyn Ann Bosher.

Ms Bosher had been arrested and charged with indecent exposure by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department on August 30, just six days before her body was found.

Mohave County police said nothing found in the desert location indicates that Ms Bosher was killed there.

The investigation into her death remains ongoing as Mohave County and Las Vegas police collaborate in an attempt to “uncover the details of this incident”.

This comes after two girls died when they attempted a viral “subway surfing” challenge on a New York City train line.

Police responded to an emergency call on Saturday just after 3am local time and made a devastating discovery at the Marcy Avenue stop in Brooklyn.

Two unidentified girls were found unresponsive and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Demetrius Crichlow, NYC’s transit president said the girls had participated in a high risk challenge.

“It’s heartbreaking that two young girls are gone because they somehow thought riding outside a subway train was an acceptable game,” he said.

“Parents, teachers and friends need to be clear with loved ones: getting on top of a subway car isn’t ‘surfing’—it’s suicide.”
