A 15yo aspiring motocross champion has died in hospital following a shocking crash at a race meet last weekend.

7NEWS is reporting that Amelia Kotze was seriously injured during the Central Coast Cup on Saturday and was airlifted to the Sydney Children’s Hospital in critical condition, but died on Tuesday at the age of just 15.

Motorcycling NSW released a statement after the news, saying its community is broken.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic passing of rider Amelia Kotze,” it said.

“Amelia was more than just a rising star in the dirt track world; she was a beacon of talent, determination, and sportsmanship.

“Her impressive achievements spoke volumes about her dedication to the sport.

“Among her many accolades, she proudly secured the Junior Girls State Titles in Victoria last November, triumphed at last year’s NSW Junior Track Championships, and shone brightly at the Australian Dirt Track Championships.

“Her exceptional skills and relentless passion for racing earned her the prestigious title of Junior Female Rider of the Year at the Motorcycling NSW Awards last year.”

The crash stopped proceedings as emergency services were called to Allen Park racetrack in Somersby, near Gosford, about 2pm on Saturday.

Kotze was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.

She was sent straight to the intensive care unit where she fought for life until being pronounced dead on Tuesday.

Police also said a 14-year-old boy had suffered minor injuries, which did not require medical attention, in the crash.

“Amelia was a favourite among peers and competitors alike,” Motorcycling NSW continued.

“Her loss is deeply felt across our community, and she will be remembered not only for her incredible achievements on the track but also for the joy and inspiration she brought to all who knew her.

“In this time of immense sorrow, our thoughts and prayers are with Amelia’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. We extend our heartfelt condolences and support to her loved ones during this difficult period.

“Rest in peace, Amelia Kotze. You will be dearly missed.”

A GoFundMe page was set up before she died in hospital, with friends and family hoping to raise funds to support medical bills for the family.

Before her tragic passing, the fundraiser’s organiser said: “Amelia is a 15-year-old young lady who is an absolute inspiration to all that meet her, and an astounding champion on and off the track.

“Amelia needs our support, let’s come together and help her family with any costs for medical, accommodation for her family to be there with her and/or any unexpected costs that may arise through this tough time.

“I’m asking for all who can help support Amelia and her family please do so, no matter how big or small every dollar helps in this very heartbreaking time.

“Our prayers and thoughts are with you ‘Millie’ — keep fighting like you do on the track, babe. You can win this race too.”

The page has since been updated following Kotze’s death.

“Our little champion of the track has finished her race here with us and has gained her wings to now race in heaven,” it now reads.

“You were such an inspiration to everyone and you will be dearly missed by all.

“Hold the throttle on babe, fly high and ride hard, beautiful girl. Forever #789 xoxo.”
