A retired father from Queensland’s Bribie Island has revealed he recently had a dream of just such an eye-watering win.

“This is really strange but a few months back I had a vivid dream that I had gone into a lottery draw with a mate, and that our entry had won $40 million,” he said.

“Ever since then, our friend has bought a ticket when the draw is over $40 million.”

On Thursday night, was drifting off to sleep, thinking of ways he might spend the $60 million Powerball jackpot, when he received news of the real-life lottery win on Thursday night.

He had only entered draw 1499 that morning while “watching the birds and enjoying a cuppa out on the deck”.

Now he has revealed his exciting and generous plans for the prize money.

“What the bloody hell is that?” the Bribie Island man had said as the phone vibrated on his bedside table.

It was an incoming call from The Lott to inform him he held the only division one winning entry.

“Is that real?” he said when told of the life-changing win.

He said he almost missed out on selecting the winning numbers, but had received an email about the jackpot prize, prompting him to enter the draw — and resolved to do so.

“Then my wife started talking to me and I got distracted. I almost missed getting a ticket completely,” he said.

“Thankfully, I had remembered to put a Powerball ticket on when we were out on the deck.”

Another potential obstacle to the win was his choice of numbers — 20, 23, 34, 19, 24, 31, 10 and Powerball number 14.

“I’ve been playing these numbers for 10 or 15 years. Funnily enough, I don’t always play them, sometimes I switch it up, but luckily I used them tonight,” he said.

He had purchased the three-game PowerHit entry on The Lott app.

Planning how to spend $60 million

“No joke, I was just drifting off to sleep dreaming about what it would be like to win the lotto — all the things I could do,” he said of the moments before he learned of his new fortune.

“I’ll be able to help a lot of people with this.

“I’ve got kids I can help and plenty of friends doing it tough.

“My mum also used to have this vintage car that she loved to bits. She had to sell it one day and she cried all the way home.

“I think I’m going to keep the tradition going by buying the same model again. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

“We might call one of our children tonight and ask what colour Chevy they want.”

Too excited to go back to sleep

The Bribie Island man said he and his wife were giddy with the joy of winning.

“I can’t stop laughing. Holy s***,” he told The Lott.

“Now my wife can’t stop laughing too. She’s in shock.”

Despite having already tucked up into bed for the night, the pair realised they wouldn’t be getting much sleep.

“What an exciting night! How are we going to sleep now?” he said

“It’s after 9pm but this calls for a bottle of champagne.”
