A Victorian woman picked up a call from her ‘bank’. It cost her $130k

A man is wanted for allegedly scamming an elderly Victorian woman out of $130,000.
It all began with a call to a 91-year-old woman from Foster, in Victoria’s South Gippsland, from someone claiming to be her bank.
But the September 19 call was not from her bank, nor even a distant scammer — it was allegedly from a local man.

The woman got a knock on her door that same day and handed over her bank card to the person who had allegedly come to collect it.
Over the next five days, the woman’s card would allegedly be used 130 times before it was cancelled.
The scammer allegedly purchased gift cards from a number of stores across Melbourne.
They included stores in Airport West, Altona, Bacchus Marsh, Balaclava, Caulfield, Chadstone, Corio, Deer Park, Elsternwick, Essendon, Footscray, Geelong, Maribyrnong, Hoppers Crossing, Malvern, Moonee Ponds, Point Cook, Port Melbourne Spotswood, Sunshine, Werribee, Williamstown and Yarraville between September 19 and 23.
The card was then cancelled.
Police have released images of a man who they believe can assist with their investigation into the matter.
Officers urge anyone who recognises the man to contact Crime Stoppers.
