Matherson was sentenced to three years and one month imprisonment in the South Australian District Court on Monday for endangering life.

During the trial, the court heard Matherson had an argument with workers at the business moments earlier because he was turned away from leaving a trailer full of items just before the yard was about to close for the day.

Matherson parked across the yard’s exit, stopping customers from leaving.

When Hatchard asked him to move his car, Matherson told the court during his trial, he became “panicked and distressed” because a group of employees surrounded his car.

He then mowed Hatchard down with his van.

CCTV released by the court following a 7NEWS application shows Matherson then do a U-turn and drive into Hatchard at speed while he was lying injured on the ground.

Hatchard’s workmates and customers rushed to help him and he was taken to hospital with injuries to his shoulder, legs and ribs.

Matherson’s sentence was suspended because he had been diagnosed with cancer and his health had deteriorated.

The court heard Hatchard had become moody and withdrawn since the incident.

Hatchard said he suffered nightmares following the incident.

He expressed his disappointment with Matherson’s sentence outside court.

“When I hit the ground I was all dazed. I had to suffer from the injuries and that, why can’t he?,” Hatchard said.
