Alleged Bondi shooter Naveed Akram has been transferred to Goulburn Supermax, following almost two weeks at a Sydney prison hospital.

The 24-year-old Bonnyrigg man faces 59 charges, including 15 counts of murder and committing a terrorist act, over the December 14 mass shooting at Bondi Beach.

Akram was seriously wounded when police opened fire during the attack, which also left his father Sajid Akram dead after he allegedly shot multiple people attending the celebration.

After being treated for abdominal gunshot wounds at Royal North Shore Hospital for nine days, Akram was moved under heavy security to Long Bay Jail in Sydney’s east, where he remained in the facility’s medical unit.

According to the Daily Telegraph, after a 13-day stay there, Akram has now been relocated to the High Risk Management Correctional Centre inside Goulburn’s maximum-security complex.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said Akram is expected to stay at Goulburn Supermax on remand.

A NSW Government spokesperson was unable to confirm to The Nightly but provided a statement about the prison Akram is believed to have been sent to.

“Community safety remains this Government’s top priority, and Corrective Services NSW takes its responsibility to appropriately manage serious offenders incredibly seriously,” they said.

“The High Risk Management Correctional Centre is the most secure prison in the state, and is equipped to accommodate inmates who pose the highest levels of risk.

“We are not able to comment on the specific circumstances of individual inmates.”
