Australia Post will resume delivery to the United States three days earlier than expected after deliveries were stopped due to new tariffs and custom rules.

The sensational suspension began on August 26, affecting Business Contract, MyPost Business and retail customers, though gifts valued under US$100. Letters to the US were exempt.

In an updated statement on Friday, Australia Post announced it would resume sending parcels from Monday.

In early September, Australia Post confirmed it was working with Zonos, an authorised US Customs and Border Protection and Universal Postal Union third-party provider, to meet the new requirements that would allow deliveries to return on September 25.

Australia Post executive general manager of parcel and post ecommerce services Gary Starr said he was pleased to be sending parcels to the US ahead of schedule.

“We know our customers have felt the impact and disruption from changes the US government made to customs and import tariff rules, and we have been working around the clock to restart sending as soon as possible,” he said.

Mr Starr also thanked customers for their patience and understanding.

“Australia Post is focused on providing a reliable and competitive parcel experience and we know just how important it is for them to be able to send items to the US through our cost-efficient postal service as soon as possible,” he said.
