Albo sells Canada a $6.6b Australian radar system

Following a call between Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Canada has announced it has purchased a $6.6 billion Australian radar system.

“Today I’m announcing that our government will be working with our long-standing defence and security partner Australia to build a new, long-range, over-the-horizon military radar system.,” Mr Carney said.

“(It) will enable Canada to detect and respond to both air and maritime threat over our arctic both faster and from further away. It will most fundamentally keep all Canadians safe.”

The two leaders discussed global trade and their “commitment to economic co-operation,” Australian officials said.
