The ripple effect of the devastating Bondi massacre is being felt right across Sydney, with radio personality Kyle Sandilands revealing on-air that the tragedy had also touched his family.

Speaking on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday, Sandilands said that his wife Tegan Kynaston’s aunt Yvonne Wineberg was stabbed in the shoulder near the Chanel boutique during the attack on Saturday.

Sandilands said she was one of mass murderer Joel Cauchi’s first victims.

“One of the first women to get stabbed in the shoulder was a family member of ours. She’s a very close family member to my wife,” he said.

“So, we were watching it on TV, and saw one of our families (sic) were involved and carted off to hospital.”

Running to Ms Wineberg’s rescue was Andy Reid, a Bondi Beach lifeguard and father of three who had been inside the Myer department store.

The shutters were closed at Myer after the attack began in a bid to keep shoppers safe. However, Mr Reid asked to be let out so he could provide first aid.

Sandilands said Reid could see Ms Wineberg lying on the ground.

“He could see our family member that got stabbed laying on the ground. There was so much blood.

“He said, ‘if I don’t get to her, she’s losing too much blood’, so they let him out, and he rendered assistance before the paramedics arrived.”

Sandilands said Reid had described the horrific scene, saying ”every 50 foot there was another person laying in a pile of blood — all the way down the mall.”

Ms Wineberg has been released from hospital and is recovering at home.

It comes amid revelations another Sydney radio host was forced to break the tragic news to close friend John Singleton that his daughter Dawn had died in the attack.

Ray Hadley said he was contacted by Mr Singleton on Saturday night, who was desperate to confirm if his daughter was one of the victims.

“I rang him and he said, ‘I think my Dawnie is one of those who lost their life and I can’t confirm it. Can you do something?’” Hadley told 3AW radio.

The radio host called the NSW police commissioner.

“I rang the police commissioner and asked her if she had any names and she said only one and confirmed it was Dawn,” Hadley said while holding back tears.

“And I had the job of ringing John back and unofficially confirming that his dear darling daughter had been stabbed to death by this lunatic.”
