Bruce Highway closed after Tiaro crash leaves man in his 20s trapped in wreckage fighting for his life

A man in his 20s is fighting for his life after a horrific truck and car crash, that left the man trapped inside the wreckage of his vehicle.

The incident began shortly after 10am on Friday when a car collided with a semi-trailer on the Bruce Highway north of the Sunshine Coast.

All lanes were closed in both directions near Tiaro as police, ambulance and fire crews attempted to rescue a man trapped in a vehicle after a horror crash.

Fire crews arrived around 10.30am before having to use the jaws of life to free the man.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said: “Cutting gear was used to free the man who was then passed into the care of Queensland Ambulance Services (QAS).”

The man was freed around 11am.

QAS confirmed: “A male patient with life-threatening head injuries has been airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.”

The truck driver was assessed on-site and was taken to has been taken to Maryborough Hospital in a stable condition.
