Shoppers say they are “bloody sick of dogs” at Bunnings Warehouse stores because the animals have left them sidestepping faeces as they walk through the aisles.

One customer venting on social media claimed she had come across dog droppings at one store but when she returned from getting a staff member, a trolley had already rolled “right over it”.

“Why are we allowing non-service dogs into a hardware shop? It’s a shop, not a dog park,” the woman, who said she loves dogs and has two of her own, posted on Reddit on Tuesday.

“I emailed the store and they informed me that any dogs behaving badly will be removed from the store.

“But they aren’t behaving badly, they’re doing what dogs do.”

The shopper claimed lazy customers not picking up after pets, dog fights and leads being caught around customers’ legs meant the issue “is getting out of hand”.

Despite conceding her daughter had labelled her a “Karen” for her stance on the topic, the disgruntled shopper found support online.

“I have had (and) loved dogs all my life, but this needs to stop. Some people are allergic, some are scared, not everyone wants to be around your bloody dog. Leave it home,” one person said.

Another said “I actually don’t understand the need for the general population to take their dogs to Bunnings”.

“I think there’s certain situations where it’s warranted, which was probably the original intention, but it’s clearly being abused,” they said.

Others argued the problem is actually with lazy dog owners and that Bunnings should dish out lifetime bans for those who don’t pick up after their pets.

Bunnings responds to complaint about dogs in store

Bunnings says it “welcomes” assistance animals and well-behaved pets that are on a lead, but owners must maintain control at all times and clean up after them.

“We’ve been welcoming pets into our stores for many years and love the feedback from customers about how much they enjoy having their four-legged companions with them while they shop with us,” Bunnings chief customer officer Rachael McVitty said.

“Like many other retailers that offer pet products, we take a common-sense approach when welcoming dogs into our stores.

“The feedback we receive shows that the vast majority of pet owners are respectful of other customers and our team when they’re in our stores.

“We work hard to make sure our stores are safe, welcoming environments for everyone and we’re disappointed to hear one of our customers had a negative experience.”

McVitty said customers are encouraged to reach out to team members “so we can resolve it on the spot”.

“Please for the love of god stop. I don’t get paid enough to clean up your dog’s p*** and s***,” the worker said.

“If you can’t train your dog to not pee indoors or simply don’t care enough to carry poop bags, for the love of god just don’t bring your dogs to a literal shop.
