Burleigh Brewing Company: Australian beer crowned best in the world at World Beer Championships
Two Australian beers have picked up gold medals at the World Beer Championships, a true-blue recognition for one of Australia’s favourite beverages.
Burleigh Brewing, located on the Gold Coast, took out the accolade in the Black Beer category with its Japan Black, and the American-Style Light Lager category with its Bighead offering.
Burleigh Brewing Company’s co-owner and co-founder Brennan Fielding told Sunrise the win is “one of the proudest moments of my life”.

Mr Fielding said a good beer comes down to the “care factor” and “ingredients”.
“This is my 31st year of brewing beer professionally. Maybe I got it right this time.
“I think that we make consistent, high-quality beer.
Mr Fielding said to win an award like this, the beer needs to get into the hands of the right judges, something he appears to have done with his incredible win for the brewery and for Australia.
Sadly, there was no celebratory crowning or large display for the Australian’s achievement, instead, Mr Fielding learnt the news by email.
“Well, we send our beer over to the judging in Chicago. We didn’t actually go there, so we just got an email the other day saying that we had won,” Mr Fielding said.
The result is officially announced in the US on Friday local time, so hopefully, they’ll be pouring a cold one in celebration.
