Arson squad officers attended the scene but were unable to determine the source of the fire.
According to Ms Close, her sister was outside playing with two of her other children when the fire started in the bedroom.
“He was asleep in there, and she’s gone to open the door and the window’s just combusted,” she said.
“She couldn’t see anything from the smoke but when she got to the cot, it was just in flames. There was nothing she could do.”
Ms Close said the fire did not burn for long, but the damage was already done.
“The whole house is gone,” she said.
Police said several people were inside the home at the time but the baby boy was the only casualty.
The child’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
Ms Close said the family had been inundated with clothing donations.
“The whole community has been absolutely amazing, and we want to thank every single person that was here on the scene,” she said.
