Critical incident declared as armed driver fleeing police across border found dead in car
Police chased the Queensland man across the NSW border.

A chaotic cross-border police chase has ended with a death in the Northern Rivers of NSW.
The body of an armed driver was found in his car and a critical incident was declared about 2am on Sunday.
The 25-year-old man evaded Queensland Police officers responding to reports of an armed man in a white ute on Robina Town Centre Dr in Robina about 11.42pm on Saturday.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.Police patrols discovered him parked on the side of West Burleigh Rd about 12.40am, and an attempt to detain him kickstarted an eastbound pursuit towards the Gold Coast Hwy.
When he crossed into NSW about 1am, Queensland Police Service informed its NSW counterpart that its officers had pursued a man with a gun into their jurisdiction.
NSW Police found the armed driver travelling in a ute on Sexton Hill Dr at Banora Point shortly after.
“Officers directed the man to stop; however, he failed to do so, and a pursuit was initiated,” NSW Police said.
“The pursuit continued through multiple nearby suburbs.”
Road spikes were successfully deployed twice in South Murwillumbah, but the man continued driving for another 26km.
“The man continued to drive from police until finally stopping down an embankment on Kyogle Rd, Kunghur,” NSW Police said.


Critical incident declared
Police formed a perimeter around the man’s car and police negotiators were sent to speak with the man.
“As police approached the vehicle they found the driver unconscious,” NSW Police said.
Immediate attempts at CPR were unsuccessful and the man was confirmed dead.
He is yet to be formally identified.
A gun found in the car has been seized for forensic examination.
A critical incident team will lead investigations into the incident and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
