More than 80 packages were stolen from the Mentone post office just a week out from Christmas.

Dozens of parcels have been stolen from a post office in Melbourne’s southeast just days out from Christmas with police now on the hunt for the heartless thief.

A man dressed in a security guard’s uniform broke into a post office on Florence St, Mentone using a pry bar about 4.30am on Tuesday, December 17.

CCTV captured the thief rummaging around the front desk of the store before pushing a trolley with several parcels into the backroom.

Police say he used the trolley to steal more than 80 parcels before he then fled the scene.

The offender is described as being Caucasian in appearance, approximately 175cm tall with a large build and long straight black hair.

He was last seen wearing black gloves, a black security jacket, brown shoes and a black face covering.

Police have released CCTV of the man and the alleged theft.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
