Eddie McGuire has confirmed Karl Stefanovic will not be returning to co-host The Long Weekend radio show, following the veteran media host’s fallout with Nine.

McGuire said as reported this week, his co-host and friend Karl Stefanovic would no longer be part of The Long Weekend show, as he dedicates the next phase of his successful career to his podcast.

“I wish Karl the best of luck as his storied and ever-colourful media journey continues,” he said.

“Good on you, Karlos. It was short and sweet, mate and I wish you all the best.”

Nine News reported McGuired appeared solo on the fourth episode of the radio show that was produced through Nine and the Australian Radio Network.

Stefanovic reportedly only appeared on two episodes of the show before he departed Nine.

The Long Weekend was marketed as a weekly radio show featuring McGuire and Stefanovic broadcast on Friday afternoons across the Gold Network.

The two broadcasters discussed the biggest news stories of the week and previewed the weekend ahead with banter, songs and stories.

Stefanovic left his role at Nine after almost three decades with the network in the aftermath of releasing a controversial podcast alongside British far-right commentator Tommy Robinson.

The podcast was only online for a matter of hours before being pulled, but was heavily criticised that resulted in the veteran TV hosts’s departure from Nine.

Last week, after news of his departure was made public, The Long Weekend was broadcast with McGuire hosting alongside newsreader Georgia Love, instead of Stefanovic.

“Nine Entertainment and Karl Stefanovic have agreed that it is no longer possible for him to continue hosting Today at the same time as his independent podcast,” a statement from Nine read. Nine had previously agreed he would leave Today at the end of this year, they have subsequently decided he will leave the network immediately.”
