A peeping Tom who spied on a woman changing in her home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs has escaped with just a small fine.

The court was told the 29-year-old female victim was changing in the bedroom of her Coogee apartment when she spotted Eduin Giraldo-Lopez, 50, “crouched down peering through spaces between the slats in the fence”.

Giraldo-Lopez, who is the father of a young woman himself, was seen walking outside and his ute was sighted driving past the apartment.

He returned two days later when the victim’s flatmate chased him away and found him hiding in a nearby park.

The offender lied to police about where he was but phone records confirmed he had been outside the woman’s apartment and he was charged.

His lawyer acknowledged the victim would have been traumatised by what happened but said his client was extremely remorseful and embarrassed by his behaviour.

He was fined $150 for what Magistrate Michael Barko said was “an offence that one doesn’t often see this day and age, because in this day and age ... you can go to the beach and peep.”

Giraldo-Lopez said he was “so, so sorry” and would “never” do it again.
