Geelong stabbing: 82-year-old man dies at Sir Charles Hotham Hotel after alleged assault with fellow guest

An urgent manhunt is underway after an elderly man was stabbed to death while staying in a city hotel.

Police were called to the Sir Charles Hotham Hotel on Brougham Street in the city of Geelong late on Wednesday night, where they discovered an 82-year-old man with stab wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man aged in his 30s is believed to have left the scene before emergency services arrived.

It is understood that the man in his 30s was also staying at the hotel.

“The area has been cordoned off and a crime scene established. Officers from the Major Crime Scene Unit will also attend the scene,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

“A search is currently underway to locate the other man involved.”

Police said the two men are believed to be known to each other, treating the stabbing as an “isolated” incident.
