A 74-year-old man has tragically died after a house fire engulfed his home late on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to a Gilles Plains residence after a neighbour reported the blaze just before midnight.

Police and fire crews arrived at the Edwards Court property around 11.30pm to find the home fully ablaze.

Firefighters managed to retrieve an unconscious man from inside, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire investigators are working to determine how the fire started, though it is not believed to be suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the coroner as investigations continue.
