The woman killed in a fatal head-on crash in Melbourne on Tuesday has been identified as a single mother and refugee who was moments away from returning home to her son.

Zamira Hussainpoor, 35, was killed on Tuesday morning when her sedan collided with a utility in Hampton Park.

Police are currently investigating if the driver of the utility, who was on his P-plates, was hooning before the crash.

Ms Hussainpoor was driving home on Tuesday morning after a night shift, where her 13-year-old son Husnain was waiting for her to come home.

In a GoFundMe page created by Ms Hussainpoor’s brother Abdur-Rahman Butler, he said his sister was the sole carer for her son and had been working night shifts to support him financially.

Mr Butler said his sister would often go without sleep to spend what little time she could with her son.

“As a refugee she faced significant hardship, overcoming numerous obstacles and making many sacrifices to offer the best upbringing she could for Husnain,” he continued.

“Unfortunately, her life was cut short as she was returning home to pick up her son after a night shift at her job.”

Mr Butler said funds raised would go to immediate funeral expenses, legal expenses arising from Ms Hussainpoor’a death and supporting 13-year-old Husnain.

The family confirmed that Husnain “was incredibly attached” to his mother and that he did not know his father. He will now live with his grandmother who is a pensioner.

At publication, the GoFundMe had raised over $17,000 to support Husnain and the family.
