A major crash in Melbourne this morning has left one driver dead and two others fighting for life.

The head-on collision involving a sedan and a utility occurred on Glasscocks Road in Hampton Park shortly after 7 am on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the scene where the driver of the sedan was pronounced dead.

The passenger of the sedan and the driver of the utility were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Major collision investigation unit detectives are investigating the fatality and have stated that circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be fully established.
