Hot cross buns hit supermarket shelves at Coles, Woolworths and Aldi, dividing Australians after Christmas

Woolworths, Coles and Aldi have both infuriated and excited Australians, with the controversial appearance of a hot item on shelves nationwide.
Hot cross buns are officially back.
The beloved Easter treat, which really can be seen as glorified fruit toast, returned to Aussie supermarkets from Boxing Day 2025, with Australians given months to enjoy the treat.

“You’ve got to be f..king kidding me,” one user said online.
“Best thing about Boxing Day,” wrote another.
Whilst a third person was both outraged and happy. “It’s ridiculous, but I love hot x buns so I’m a happy camper,” they concluded.
At many supermarkets across Australia, the Easter treats are on display right next to the outgoing Christmas offerings.

Coles, Woolworths and Aldi have brought out some serious contenders this year as they it out to offer the most popular hot cross bun offering.
Coles is offering an Arnott’s Iced Vovo hot cross bun, along with apple and cinnamon and chocolate hot cross buns, in addition to the old faithful classic.
Woolworths is selling “indulgent” varieties, including Mudcake and Caramelised Biscuit limited edition hot cross bun flavours
Aldi has a smaller variety of flavours on the shelf for now, promising to bring back other options like the Banoffee variety closer to Easter.
