How much do weddings cost? Prices skyrocket across Australia, NSW most expensive, TAS cheapest
While a cost-of-living crisis may be impacting most of the country, couples planning weddings are splashing cash.
While the cost of food, petrol, and homes continues to rise, so too do the prices of weddings.
A new report has revealed the eye-watering figures couples are forking out for their nuptials across Australia, despite the cost-of-living crisis.
Now in its 10th year, the annual report about Australia’s wedding industry was released by Easy Weddings this week, put together based on the information from more than 4,200 couples and almost 550 wedding businesses.

New South Wales comes in with the highest average spend, $42,322, while Tasmanian couples pay the least, averaging $25,423.
But the largest stress for those planning a wedding is related to sticking to their budget.

Easy Weddings founder and chief executive Matt Butterworth said while the cost-of-living crisis was on the minds of couples, it was not enough to deter them from their dream weddings.
“This year’s findings reveal a market shaped by cost-conscious decision-making, but not diminished ambition,” he said.
“Couples are still prioritising memorable experiences, particularly when it comes to venues, food, photography and entertainment, while balancing those priorities through smaller guest lists, clearer budgeting and more streamlined planning choices.”
The amount spent on wedding dresses has climbed 3.5 per cent, with the average cost sitting at $2,591.
Of those surveyed in the report, only eight per cent opted to buy their dress second-hand.
It’s not just the couples forking out more. Guests spend an average of $203 on gifts, or $380 if they’re a close family member or friend.
This increase is reflective of a preference for wishing wells and cash gifts.
The average age of couples getting married in Australia is 33 for men and 32 for women. Although these ages are slightly higher in same sex unions.
And, unsurprisingly in the world of modern dating, the most common way couples meet is on dating apps, with only 10 per cent meeting at pubs or clubs.
