Hundreds of students stage more rallies against Pauline Hanson in major cities

Hundreds of students have taken to the streets of Sydney to protest against Pauline Hanson and the rise of One Nation.

The gathering kicked off in Hyde Park in the CBD on Thursday afternoon.

The protesters began chanting “Pauline Hanson go to hell, take your racists there as well,” before storming down Market St

The mood quickly turned rowdy as organisers chanted “when I say Pauline, you say f*ck off”.

Thursday’s rallies follows similar protests in August.

Organiser Jasmine Al-Rawi told NewsWire the rally had been sparked by Senator Hanson’s rising polling and growing presence in mainstream politics and the media.

“I think it’s the fact that Pauline Hanson’s polling has gone up so much and has been kind of parachuted into the mainstream in the media, in politics, and people are not happy with that,” Ms Al-Rawi said protesters were concerned about what she called Hanson’s “racist vision of society”.

She said Senator Hanson’s “whole political brand” had nothing to do with helping ordinary people.

“It’s all about promoting bigotry in society”.

She said protesters were concerned there was a very real possibility Senator Hanson could become prime minister.

“We had a protest like this about a month ago. and there was so much support for the rally,” she said.

“I’m worried about that for sure. And I think it’s time that the media stopped downplaying her monumental rise that’s happening right now.

“And I think it’s something that should concern a lot of people – not only is one nation winning a lot of seats, but their polling was one of the highest parties right now.”

An organiser gave the crowd a moment to say how they felt about Senator Hanson after the protesters circled back to Hyde Park.

Some could be heard shouting a number of profanities before dispersing.
