Investigation launched after shocked Esperance couple find live frog in bag of Woolworths lettuce

A WA couple is in shock after getting a little more than they paid for in a sealed bag of lettuce bought at Woolworths.
The discounted item came with an unexpected passenger — a live frog.
An investigation is now underway into how the frog, named Greg by the couple and their housemate, found his way to the fruit and veg section in Woolies in Esperance in the State’s south coast.

“It was just chillin’ in the bag, I think he was having a hell of a time really,” Mr Le Pine told ABC.
“Lucky the bag had a few holes in it, he had plenty of pastures to graze on, he was enjoying it.”
The couple shared vision of the frog looking alert and at home in a TikTok video that by Monday afternoon had been viewed 4.7m times after being posted just the day before.
Ms Jones said, “All credit to our flatmate, it’s their lettuce and they came home and he’s just in the kitchen cooking up and then he’s like. . .there’s a frog in the lettuce.
“He’s one of the most relaxed Australians you’ll ever find.
“Honestly, it was hilarious. We went around and showed everyone. We were all screaming about it, having a laugh,” she said
Far from being hopping mad, the couple said they had not complained about the bonus amphibian in their lettuce, saying they were farmers and they understood that things like this can happen.
But Woolworths is taking the matter seriously and investigating. A spokesperson said they had been in contact with the couple to apologise and provide a replacement item.
“Woolworths takes product quality and food safety very seriously,” the spokesperson said.
“We work with a number of lettuce growers in WA and across Australia.
“Our suppliers have rigorous processes to maintain product quality. For heads of lettuce this involves washing and a number of quality checks, which includes checking for foreign materials, before they are packaged and sent to our stores.”
The spokesperson said this had been an isolated incident and there had been no other reports of frogs in lettuce bags.
“Our teams are investigating this with our suppliers as a priority.”
As for Greg? He was released with a touching send off accompanied by the viral hit Crazy Frog.
“We released him, got him out of the plastic and set him free with his little snack of lettuce. We live close to a dam so he was able to get next to the water again and be outside,” Ms Jones said.
