Two light plane crashes occurred in the outback region.

A young pilot killed in a light plane crash in South Australia’s Far North has been remembered as a “funny man” with a “beautiful nature”.

Adam Snell, 22, was at the controls of a Cessna 172 that crashed at Mulgathing, 289km southwest of Coober Pedy, about 9.30am on Thursday.

Snell, the sole occupant of the aircraft, died at the scene.

Those who knew the passionate flyer say he was loved by everyone.

“Adam was so funny and had a beautiful nature about him,” one close friend said.

“He was honest and reliable.”

Snell, who had been working at Jumbuck Pastoral for seven months, graduated from flight school in New Zealand four years ago.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has launched an investigation into how the crash occurred.

Safework SA has been notified of the death and police will prepare a report for the coroner.

The emergency came just hours before another light plane crash in Evelyn Downs, two hours north of Coober Pedy.

The 42-year-old pilot in that emergency has been flown to Adelaide with serious injuries.
