A 36-year-old man has been charged following a horrifying knife incident in Surfers Paradise on Sunday.

Police were dispatched to an address on Aubrey Street before 6pm after receiving reports of a man wielding a knife.

Officers discovered a man on an e-bike allegedly armed with a knife in a surrounding street.

The man tried to evade police before a taser was used to apprehend him.

The suspect, identified as a resident of Chambers Flat, was taken into custody.

Authorities have charged the man with possession of a knife in a public place, committing public nuisance, and obstructing a police officer.

He is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on June 16.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
