Man charged with murder after fatal Frankston Pier assault

A man has been charged with murder after another man died in an early morning attack on a Melbourne pier.

The incident unfolded at Frankston Pier, 40km south of the CBD, just after 6am on Saturday, when the man was found unresponsive.

A 45-year-old man from Cranbourne North, died at the scene.

Shortly after, a 36-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on the nearby foreshore.

He was charged by Homicide Squad detectives and will appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Sunday afternoon.

The two men are not believed to have known each other.

Detectives investigating the death and are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
