Man shot after allegedly stabbing female police officer in neck in Adelaide’s north

A man has been shot by police in Adelaide’s north after allegedly stabbing a female police officer in the neck.

The officer was rushed to hospital with “serious injuries” and the alleged offender was taken to hospital after being shot in the leg.

Acting Assistant Commissioner David O’Donovan said the man’s injuries are not life threatening and that he will be facing “very serious charges”.

“He has stabbed a police officer so he will be facing some very serious charges,” he said.

“Our immediate concern, obviously, is for the welfare of the police officer.

“We are providing appropriate support for her colleagues and of course for her family.”

Mr O’Donovan praised the work of police and emergency services, describing their actions as “swift”.

“There is no ongoing threat or risk to the public as a result of this incident.”

At about 11 am local time, police were called to reports of a male running onto Main North Road at Elizabeth East armed with a knife.

Mr O’Donovan said an investigation is currently underway and the South Australia Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding the alleged attack.

“Anyone that was walking in the area, but in particular anyone who was driving through the area that may have dashcam, to please come forward and assist us with the investigation,” Mr O’Donovan said.

SA Police posted on Facebook earlier, saying officers were responding to an incident near the intersection of Fairfield Road.

“Police are responding to an incident on Main North Road near the intersection of Fairfield Road,” the post stated.

“Southbound traffic on Main North Road is blocked and will be diverted,” it said.

“Members of the public are to be guided by police at diversion points.”
