A man has had a partial leg amputation at a Western Sydney workplace after he fell into machinery and became stuck about 8.45pm on Sunday, NSW Ambulance and Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said.

The man in his 70s was freed from the machinery by firefighters who rushed to the business on Yamma St at Sefton.

One FRNSW specialist rescue fire truck and four firefighters from Burwood Fire Station responded to the emergency.

The elderly man’s leg had been seriously injured by the machinery.

Paramedics treated him at the scene, and took him by ambulance to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Firefighters left the scene just before 10pm, FRNSW said.

SafeWork NSW was notified of the incident on Sunday, and inspectors “are attending the site and making inquiries,” a SafeWork NSW spokesperson said.
