Police were called to Addison Road, Marrickville, on Thursday morning, around 1am, after reports of a stabbing.
“On arrival, officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were told a passenger – 51-year-old man –had been stabbed in the arm and hand by another man, who exited the bus and left the scene,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.

Police say the two men are not believed to be known to each other.
The incident occurred outside The Vic on the Park, a popular inner city Sydney pub.
The 51-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious, but stable, condition.
NSW Police have set up a crime scene and are currently combing through nearby Enmore Park.
“Police have just conducted a line search under these trees, because that’s where they believe that this alleged attacker has run off to,” 7NEWS reporter Liam Tapper told Sunrise on Thursday morning.
“After the attack happened outside the pub, police have gone over here. If we look at the area, there are two detectives going over CCTV of the bus where the alleged attack took place.”

Tapper, who had been speaking with witnesses on the scene, said they believe the attack was “completely random, completely unprovoked”.
The alleged attack remains at large.
