Melbourne shooting: 22-year-old fatally shot in Wollert in alleged targeted gangland attack

A 22-year-old man has been fatally shot in a laneway in Wollert, Melbourne, in what police are describing as a “deliberate and targeted” attack.
The incident occurred just before 9am on Thursday, when an altercation between two men in the laneway escalated.
“Police were told the male victim was approached by an unknown male offender in a laneway behind a Champions Parade residential address shortly before 9am, resulting in the victim being shot,” a Victoria police spokesperson said.

While the other man fled in a vehicle.
A burnt-out car was later found on Amery Street in Reservoir, with police investigating whether it was linked to the shooting.
“No arrests have been made at this stage and a crime scene has been established,” the statement continued.
“At this early stage in the investigation, detectives believe the shooting was a targeted attack.”
Homicide squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas revealed at a press conference that the victim was known to police.
“It appears very deliberate and targeted,” he said.
The shooting is believed to be connected to ongoing gangland feuds in Melbourne’s north.
Detectives have cordoned off the laneway as a crime scene, and homicide squad investigators have been deployed from the city.
