North Sydney: Bomb disposal team deployed near Victoria Cross Station after ‘suspicious noise’ shuts CBD down

NSW Police have shared an update after a ‘suspicious noise’ coming from a post box in the North Sydney CBD sparked a major operation and shut down streets near office buildings, schools and a train station.
About 12.25pm today (Wednesday 30 July 2025), emergency services were called to Miller Street, North Sydney, following reports a suspicious noise was heard from a post box,” the update said.
“Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command established a perimeter around the item, which was examined by specialist police from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and declared safe.”

The post box is located outside the Victoria Cross Metro station and near high rise office towers and apartment buildings and multiple schools.
Vision of the police operation quickly circulated on social media as the situation unfolded and buildings and schools went into precautionary lockdowns.
While the operation was underway, NSW Police said: “The public is urged to avoid the area.”
The operation has now concluded.
