A 25-year-old police officer has been suspended with pay after being charged with allegedly possessing child abuse material.

In June 2024, officers from the professional standards command launched an investigation after reports emerged that the constable was allegedly in possession of child abuse material.

Following inquiries, the officer, who is attached to the South West Metropolitan Region in Sydney, was arrested at Campbelltown Police Station on Tuesday morning.

He has been charged with possessing and controlling child abuse material and using a carriage service to access it.

The 25-year-old man is currently suspended with pay, and his employment status remains under review.

The officer was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on 10 October.
