Awaba: Pedestrian killed after horror collision with ute in northern NSW

Emergency services were unable to revive an elderly pedestrian after they were struck and killed by a ute in a horror collision.

Police released a statement saying the man had succumbed to injuries sustained from the impact while attempting to cross the street in Awaba, located around 30 minutes from Newcastle.

“At around 7pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to the intersection of Cessnock Road and Kilaben Street, Awaba, following reports of a pedestrian had been hit by a white ute,” NSW Police said.

“The pedestrian - a 98-year-old man – died at the scene.

“The driver – a 49-year-old man – was taken to John Hunter Hospital for a mandatory testing.”

A crime scene has been established and detectives have commenced an investigation into the incident, with a report to be prepared for the Coroner.
