‘Bluey’ heist: Serious crime squad police arrest second Sydney man over theft of thousands of coins
A serious crime with a cartoon twist continues to play out after a second man was arrested relating to the theft of thousands of coins printed to celebrate the cartoon character, Bluey.
NSW Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives charged a second man with allegedly stealing tens of thousands of unreleased limited edition Bluey coins from a warehouse in Sydney’s west last month.
On Monday 12 July 2024, police received a report that a large amount of currency had been stolen from a warehouse in Wetherill Park.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.Officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command arrived and were told that 63,000 unreleased limited edition $1 Bluey coins – produced by the Australian Mint – had been stolen.
An investigation into the incident was commenced by State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad under Strike Force Bandit.
As part of investigations, strike force detectives located and seized 189 Bluey coins and charged a 47-year-old man for his alleged role in the theft. He remains before the courts.
Following further investigations, strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – arrested a 44-year-old man at a home in Canley Heights, at about 8.30 am today (Tuesday 20 August 2024).
The man was taken to Fairfield Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of aggravated break & enter committing serious indictable offence.
The 44-year-old was refused bail to appear before Fairfield Local Court today.
Detectives will allege in court the 44-year-old man worked with another man who worked at the warehouse to steal the coins.
Investigations under Strike Force Bandit continue.
