Bourke: Police arrest 13-year-old boy after making threats at school with knife and allegedly starts a fire

A high school in regional NSW has been thrown into chaos after a teenage boy allegedly threatened another boy with a knife.

Police officers attached to central north police district were called to a high school at Bourke at about 11am on Monday and were told a student had allegedly threatened another boy with a knife. There were no injuries from the incident.

Soon after, at about 11:35am, police were called to Richard Street, Bourke, following reports of a fire.

The blaze was extinguished, however, the property was extensively damaged.

Police established a crime scene and commenced investigations into both incidents, with a 13-year-old boy arrested and taken to Bourke police station.

He has now been charged with five offences including:

  • Use knife in school-causing person to fear for safety
  • Armed with intent commit indictable offence
  • Custody of knife in school
  • Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, and
  • Damage property by fire/explosion.

He has been refused bail to appear before a children’s court on Tuesday.
